about photography
I started taking pictures when I was in high school. I was captivated by the beauty in the world around me. My family traveled to enough interesting places all across the United States that I had ample opportunity to see and capture the majestic wonders of this beautiful country of ours. Since those early days I have enhanced my creative and technical skills by studying photography at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas and also Cecil College in North East, Maryland. I continue to learn each day.
I love to capture life’s beauty and the intriguing personalities of people of all ages and stages. I have always been a ‘people watcher’ and I find that some of the most compelling photos I have taken are when I have captured people just being themselves, not posed, not ‘on stage’. I find that the beauty that is in the detail of a subject is most fascinating because as observers of life we often only see the surface of things and not the intricacies of the subject.
Finding the right light is so critical that I like to awaken early and set up my tripod in twilight and wait for the first rays of light to light up the scene, highlighting the crests of dunes, throwing long shadows, creating magical combinations of light and land.
I live in Newark, Delaware with my wife, Susan, who is an elementary school teacher and the motivation behind my creative pursuits. Our four children are now building their own families and careers in various locations across the USA. Travels to see them and to see and interact with our four grand-children continue to provide me with exquisite opportunities to record all of life’s photogenic experiences.
I hope you appreciate my work.
